Help! A Humanitarian Corridor for Gaza Now.
We, Israeli medical doctors, call on you to join us in demanding that patients be allowed to leave Gaza for life-saving treatment in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. We must stop the ongoing suffering!
למה זה חשוב?
18,500 patients in Gaza, including 4,000 children, are in critical condition and urgently need complex surgeries and life-saving treatments. They are waiting for chemotherapy, biological therapies, and special nutritional formulas for congenital metabolic diseases. In fact, they are waiting for all treatments that are unavailable in Gaza’s hospitals due to the collapse of the healthcare system during the war.
There is a simple solution: Reopening the humanitarian corridor to the West Bank and East Jerusalem. This would allow immediate access to care and would ensure continuity of treatment and medical supervision. The Israeli Medical Association supports this move.
This is not a new idea: Until the outbreak of the war, a medical humanitarian corridor to the West Bank and East Jerusalem operated successfully for years, safely enabling patients from Gaza to receive treatment.
However, since the ceasefire, only a handful of patients have managed to leave Gaza to receive life-saving care. Bureaucratic obstacles in Europe and overcrowding in Egypt make evacuation there impractical and even dangerous. Meanwhile, to date, more than a thousand patients have died while waiting for treatment and exit permits. These numbers continue to rise.
The current situation, in which after more than two years of devastating war, the Israeli government does not allow so many sick and injured people such a close, essential, and feasible medical care, is a profound moral failure and a violation of the basic human right to health. We cannot claim this is not being done in our name. We have both the ability and the responsibility to demand that the Israeli government allow lifesaving care.
More than two months ago, Israeli organizations petitioned the High Court of Justice demanding the renewal of the humanitarian corridor. But patients do not have that time to spare.
Join us now in demanding the immediate opening of the humanitarian corridor to the West Bank and East Jerusalem for life-saving treatment. This is in our hands!
